The World Karate Federation (WKF) will once again reaffirm its commitment to accessibility, respect, and equal opportunity as the Para Karate competition takes center stage within the upcoming World Karate Senior Individual Championships in Cairo. This year, an impressive 111 Para Karate athletes from 31 countries are registered to compete across eight inclusive categories, making it one of the strongest representations of Para Karate in the event’s history.
Para athletes will compete in the following categories:
- Blind/Visually Impaired (Male & Female) – K10
- Intellectually Impaired (Male & Female) – K21
- Intellectually Impaired (Male & Female) – K22
- Wheelchair Users (Male & Female) – K30
Their participation not only showcases athletic excellence but also reflects the unwavering spirit of resilience, diversity, and empowerment that defines the global Karate community.
Highlighting Inclusion at the Core of Sport
By integrating Para Karate into the main World Championships, the WKF continues to lead by example in promoting inclusive competition structures where all athletes can shine on the global stage. This approach echoes the fundamental values of the One Humanity initiative led by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), which advocates for building bridges through sport, fostering dignity, and ensuring that opportunities are accessible to everyone.
“Karate has long been a sport where discipline, respect, and unity guide every movement,” said High Representative of UNAOC, Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, on behalf of the One Humanity initiative. “The strong presence of Para Karate athletes in Cairo reflects how sport can break barriers, challenge perceptions, and celebrate the abilities of every individual.”
“As we look ahead to the upcoming World Senior Individual Championships in Cairo, the importance of Para Karate stands stronger than ever. The progress of Para Karate is at the core of the WKF, as it further showcases the tremendous contribution and legacy of our sport within society. Since the first edition of the Para Karate Championships in 2014, the discipline has been an essential pillar and an active part of our World Championships—an enduring testament to the inclusivity, resilience, and values that define Karate. We are proud to continue elevating Para Karate on the world stage and to celebrate the athletes who inspire our entire community,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.
A Shared Commitment: WKF x One Humanity
The collaboration between the World Karate Federation and the One Humanity initiative represents a joint effort to highlight how sport serves as a powerful platform for inclusion. World Karate Championships stands as a living example of how sporting events can embody the principles of accessibility and equal opportunity, while inspiring younger generations and communities worldwide.
Through global competitions, storytelling, and athlete visibility, both organizations aim to amplify the message that sports belong to everyone — regardless of physical, intellectual, or social challenges.
A Global Stage for Athletes Who Inspire
The World Karate Championships in Cairo will gather athletes from all over the world, uniting them under one message: diversity strengthens sport, and sport strengthens humanity.
As the competitions begin, Para Karate athletes will not only compete for medals but will also contribute to a powerful narrative — one where determination, talent, and respect speak louder than limitations.
